The sound of the magnetic flux disturbance around a video game console interested me and confused me at the same time.
It interested me because of all the different sounds that were captured. At some points it sounded like I was sitting and listening to an electric motor turn. When I closed my eyes, it was as if the low, vibrating hum of one of my hobby motors repeated a consistent rhythm in my head. At other points it sounded as if I was listening to the first sound of a water droplet hitting water over and over again with a soft snap. It was like listening to humming birds wings. Listening to them flap up and down. The birds’ wings push the air, hitting as they reach the bottom of its movement. The track brought to mind sitting and blowing into a fan as it turns. If you have ever done this you would know that the air from your lungs blowing against the air of the fan creates a chopping sound as they collide. As the sound recording progressed, it was as if you were holding a piece of paper in the way of a fan blade. It hits and deflects the paper with a violent slap. Overall my favorite part is the light hum in the background from the drive motor turning and creating an atmosphere of confusion.
What I was left with was a lot of overlapping and intersecting sounds and an overriding question which arose from my confusion. How in the world did he record this sound?
1.)The part that captured me the most was the "motor turning and creating an atmosphere of confusion"...I found the way you put it really interesting and descriptive.
ReplyDelete2.)I felt that you described your sound as nature colliding with the world of technologie. You mentioned the water droplets and the humming birds, and you contrasted that with souds of modern day technologie, the metal fan and video games.
3.)I would suggest relating more of it to YOU than things you've experienced, Other than that I thought it was outstanding! :)
