Speak partner interview

Sara Harmatz
I predict that the symolism between Melinda and the tree is that the tree is isolated and so is Melinda.  You can tell that Melinda is alone and trees are often alone swaying in the wind. Since Melinda's attitude seems dead, Melinda is drawing sad, dead trees. She is taking her thoughts out by drawing a picture to resemble them. Melinda might want somebody to relize that she is feeling like this by showing them with her tree.

The schools are not the thing that is isolating. It can be the person chosing to isolate themselves or it can be the people around them pushing them out. The school itself doesn't really have an effect on somebody, it's really everybody in it. The students think she is weird and they know things about her that aren't true. This can make Melinda want to isolate herself.

It's not fully Melinda's parents that are making her feel this way, it is half of her fault too. She can't just change her attitude in a day, it will take more time. If her parents do care, it wll definenlty boost up her attitude and she will feel like somebody cares. She atleast needs family if she doesn't have friends.

It's a little too early to tell how the book is, but so far, I really like it and I want to find out what truely happened. I don't think that it is dramatic or far from reality because these things really do happen to people and this book is telling people to not take these kind of things as a joke and to really listen to the whole story of things or it can create more drama.
